Title: What's Comin'?
I am in the midst of creating two categories.
One will be showcasing Raggs, my version of Raggety Ann, in many cute styles but always a Raggs. The second new category will be my creation of the many beloved female cartoon and human fantasy characters. I'll share just a bit but you may find a Dorothy or a Little Bo Peep or a Little Red Riding Hood and .....
So come back and enjoy the view. Looking is free and so is the smile. Think of your little one when you are browsing and remember the Babes are made safe and durable. Not convinced? Take a moment and read, "What are They Saying" or "Babe Tales." Great stories.
Title: What size to buy?
In order to help you decide what size to buy for your little one, I have posted a picture of a Babe next to a picture of her that is in a 22 inch frame. There's a lot of Babe for your purchase.
Take a moment to read my category called WHAT ARE THEY SAYING and well as BABE TALES. Good stories and stories from happy customers that may answer questions you want answered before you purchase a Babe.
Title: Government Mandated Changes
Next month the U.S. Government will impose strict manufacturing guidelines for those of us who make toys for children under the age of 12. These guidelines will mandate the fabric, thread and finished product, in components, be submitted to the U.S. Government designated testing facility IN CHINA for testing to make certain the final product is not harmful to children under the age of 12. Fabric and thread will be tested for manufacturer's use and then again for my use in the Babes ... double testing, hmmmmm. The mandated testing costs will be astronomical to the manufacturer (me) to produce the final product and, of course, that cost will try to be recouped by the increase cost of the final product. This will be happening to all toy manufacturers in the U.S. so be aware.
If I am to continue manufacturing my Babes and to adhere to the new mandated government guidelines and procedures of producing for a safe product for children under 12 years of age, the final cost of each Babe will be out of the affordability range of my customers. With this said, the U.S. Government has mandated that I state my Babes are for children 12 and order. Although I have sold many Babes to children under the above of 12 with no negative affects, I must make this statement if I am to continue making my Babes.
With this said, my customers decision to purchase a Babe for their loved ones under the age of 12 will be at their own responsibility. I make my Babes as if my own grandchildren would receive them always with their safety in mind. I would not knowingly sell a Babe that I knew would endanger a child of any age. I continue to improve the Babes and find and use safe and durable materials that will continue the safety of each Babe. Please take an opportunity to read comments from customers under What Are They Saying and Babe Tales. 12/26/08
The U.S. Post Office will be raising the cost of shipping packages so I must raise my shipping costs as well but only by $1.00.
CLARIFICATION: The $11.00 shipping cost is for shipping one Babe. For buyers who want two or more Babes, you will see two charges on your credit card. One for the cost of the Babe and the other for the cost of shipping and a small handling fee. I think $22 or $33 or $44 is a bit excessive for shipping 2, 3, or 4 Babes so you will be charged only the shipping cost and a small handling fee.
I have checked everywhere for reasonable shipping boxes and have not found anything. So if you bear with me, I will continue to use boxes that I can obtain and will continue to secure them so no damage to the Babe(s) will occur. I do give the USPO the business when I state the box is fragile and assistant they stamp the box copious times to all USPO employees will see the box is FRAGILE.
Title: Sarah Palin
The Sarah Palin handmade cloth doll is coming. Like the rest of America, I think Sarah Palin is a wonderful American. I will be making a Sarah Babe in her summer parka and boots in the very near future so stay tuned. 11/22/08
With the holidays and all it includes, Sarah is nearly done ... so come on back 12/26/08.
Title: Changing Outfits
IMPORTANT NOTICE. Thank you all for your orders. I have had to make a necessary change. Commencing Monday, November 3, 2008, I will no longer remove outfits and/or hair ornaments from a completed Babe to make another Babe. When a Babe is finally outfitted all hair ornaments and accessories are completed to go with the outfit. I have recently taken a number of orders where the buyers liked the outfits on a completed Babe but wanted a different hair color and/or eye color. When this happens, I am left with a Babe with hair ornaments that I must wait until I find the just right fabric to go with them. If you see a completed Babe you like and would like to have a Babe similar to that, let me know and I'll be happy to work with you to get the Babe you want. I want to help you get the Babe you want but not at the expense of disassembling a completed Babe. This will exclude Build-A-Babe orders.
Also, I will be updating the Build-A-Babe category to add all the outfits I have made to date to give you a better selection.
I sincerely hope you understand.
Title: Christmas is coming
Christmas is less than 90 days away. If you have a Babe in mind, please let me know no later than December 1st. Last year I took special orders up to December 16th. I was up nearly 20 hours a day to complete the Babes then took calls from angry customers because they had not received their Babe by December 24th. I do want I can. Only one Babe was received after Christmas ... on the 26th but it was way to stressful so I have to make the cut off date for special Babes December 1st. So tell me what you want early. I am happy to accommodate my customers as best I can.
Title: Meet Sienna
I am always looking for new Babes to make. I really enjoy the show So You Think You Are Smarter Than A 5th Grader. I find little Sienna on this show to be so incredible cute. She's also very talented with her drawings. Anyway, I was inspired to make my version of Sienna. Take a peak. She can be found under the category, Meet My Friends, #773. Enjoy (9/1/08)
Title: Final Touches
I am always looking for ways to improve my Babes. As the face is embroidered, I do try and work the ends in as best I can but sometimes an end will pop up. I am now applying Fray Check to the embroidered faces to secure the thread to the face for an even longer lasting face. Fray Check is a commonly used item found at local fabric stores. This product poses no harm to children. I use only products on the Babes that are safe ... always with my own grand daughters safety in mind. (9/1/08)
Title: NEWS FLASH
This is a wonderful news flash. Tiah is such an incredibly talented young lady and she has agreed to allow me to host some of her paintings on my website. I will be putting them under PAINTINGS BY TIAH.
Tiah's medium is acrylic paint. She has also done charcoal and pencil. Currently, Tiah is using my digital camera to take pictures of her work so as soon as I get it back, you'll see how wonderfully talented she is.
So come back soon and enjoy her paintings.
Title: Meet Baby Cara
Several years ago I met a wonderful little girl by the name of Cara Thompson. Cara was about 10-12 years old and was dressed in levies, a white t-shirt and a turned around baseball cap. Dressed as a tomboy, Cara still really liked dolls so she was my inspiration to create the Tomboy Babe, Baby Cara. P.S. Santa brought Cara the cheerleader Babe she had her eye on. Good, Santa. 6/8/08
Title: The Heart Break
The heart break for a doll maker is to come to the realization that not all little girls like dolls - extremely sad but so very true. Far too often I hear mothers and/or grandmothers wanting to buy a Babe for their little girl but who has absolutely no interest in dolls. 6/8/08
Title: Tiah's Collection
I visited my friend yesterday who has an incredibly talented artist daughter named Tiah who wears just the cutest, stylish clothes - in munch kin size. Her cloths got me to thinking about outfits for the Babes. In the near future I will be adding a category called Tiah's Collection that will contain three to four outfits of hers that I really liked ... so stay tuned. 4/20/08
So I finished Tiah's Collection and it turned out pretty good. I made a long Victorian peasant dress that was just a "Tiah" dress. Then I made a dazzling silver fuzzy and lame' dress with a matching bolero jacket, definitely a Tiah Dress. Today, I sent 8x10s of the five dolls to Tiah and her family. They were very excited and thrilled. Tiah's co-workers are quite thrilled she has a Babe named after her ... totally my pleasure. 6/2/08
Title: Doll Contest
Late last year I was informed of a doll contest called DOTY Awards. This contest required that all dolls have human characteristics yet no limitations to the kinds of dolls that can be entered. I thought long and hard about it and decided to step outside my comfort zone and submitted my soft sculptured doll, #636 Frenchie in Pink and the jury fee of $100.00.
I sent a really GREAT close up of her face. It does appear that this doll contest is closed to dolls other than sculptured dolls so my soft sculpture must have come as a total surprise. There is no category in this doll contest for soft sculptured dolls so I had to put my Babe under the only category she would fit, One-of-A-Kind under $1,500.00. That would be affordable playable vs mortgage the home and don't touch.
I don't want to seem like I'm crying in my beer but I have to ask and did why there was not and, now that interest has been shown, is not a category for soft sculptured. I received only impassible jiberish ... my question still remains unanswered. 3/3/08
Title: Bitter Apple
I recently had a Babe returned to me because the family pet really liked my Babe. The pet was a bit rough with the Babe and did some serious damage.
I checked with the local pet store for a remedy to such incidents in the future and was advised that Bitter Apple could be used on the Babes to avoid the Babes becoming a new toy for the family pet.
If a customer has a pet and advises me, I will treat the hair lightly with Bitter Apple as the hair is a bit of an intriguing part of the Babe for pets. I will only treat the hair if asked to by the customer.
I have revamped the Build-A-Babe category and will be adding many outfits to it over the next few days. I have far too many outfits and can't make them into Babes as I have space limitations.
So help me out. Check out the Build-A-Babe and let me complete a Babe just for your loved one.
Title: What's Up???
Now that Christmas has past, I hope it was a joyful time for you and your family and friends. For the little girls who received one of my Babes, I hope she brings you much joy and happiness. Remember to give her lots of lovin' cause she's lovin' you back.
I am discovering that puppy dogs, Scottie dogs, cats and kittens are really popular this spring. So you can look forward to some really cool outfits with puppies and kitties.
I have been sewing like crazy and coming up with some very cool outfits and will be getting them on my website between now and the end of the month. So come back often to see what is available.
Remember, if you don't see anything you like, let me know and I'll do my best
to accommodate your wishes.
Title: The Soft Sculptured Doll ... a true gift of love
As the world is becoming more and more hi-tech, bring back the wonderful toys of yester year. Bring back a beautiful, warm, huggable treasure – the cloth doll.
Remember the handmade cloth doll your mother or grandmother made for you as a small child and how you enjoyed cuddling her in times of joy and sorrow? Well, the cloth doll is back for the enjoyment of children today. She has been revamped, restyled and renamed. The handmade cloth dolls you knew as a child are now called “soft sculptured” dolls and are still huggable.
Create new memories for a loved one with my line of handmade soft sculptured dolls called BabyKisses, http://www.babykissesdolls.com. See what can be made from fabric, polyfil and two buttons - a Babe. The “Babes” are made safe and durable for a recipient of any age. The uniqueness of my Babes is their hair. On a 24 inch Babe, there are two yards of fabric on her head which is secured by fabulous hair ornaments also secured for safety. Their eyes are sewn on with dental floss and looped eighteen times to ensure the eyes will not come off. With dental floss, they eyes are able to take the moisture from a small child without coming off. My Babes have been child tested and mother approved by many moms.
What is the ideal age to receive a Babe? I have sold Babes from pre-birth (for a baby shower) to 84 years old, both male and female. Many of my customers are returning. Please read "Babe Tales" to read some heart warming tales.
Remember if you don't see what you want, let me know I will be happy to create a special Babe just for you for your loved one. http://www.babykissesdolls.com
Title: Mailing List
I often receive e-mails from customers who want to know if I ever have specials, inquiring about what's new or ask some very interesting questions. Because of all the inquiries, I have added to my site a Mailing List category.
I will be sending out a newsletter addressing questions, showing you in advance the new Babes that will be added to my site, advising you of any discounts for the month and any items items that will be placed on sale. In general, it will be just a good time newsletter between us.
If you would be interested in receiving information or my newsletter, please take a moment and e-mail me at email@example.com with your e-mail address and information.
Title: Back To School
It's about that time of year again. I will be adding Babes with the back to school theme. There will be Babes wearing (the dreaded) uniforms, several in dresses, pinafores and pantaloons relating to school, a cheerleader and a student from the fifties.
So come on back and visit often and see the Babes in school as well as a new category called: Oh, Baby.
This category will be for Babes that are not dressed in the traditional BabyKiss outfits that are on my site now. These Babes will be dressed as flappers, Miss Patty Cakes (the Grandma of the group), Dorothy with her ruby slippers, possibly Alice (in Wonder Land), Mrs. Gross (Red Hat Society Lady) and maybe even a sassy little country girl in red shoes named Kelly.
I will also be adding another category called: For the Boys which will only be for boys in various dress, i.e. a couple of Seattle Seahawks outfit, a baseball player and more.
So stay tuned and come take a peak or two. Please feel free to give feed back if you feel inclined.
So you don't have a PayPal account. For shopping made easy for those who wish to purchase a handmade BabyKiss Doll, I have recently opened an account with Propay so you may use your credit card without having to open an account with PayPal or anyone else. It's just like paying in person. Very convenient.
Title: Party Babes
I have created a new category for those handmade cloth dolls that are a bit more fancy than the norm. The outfits for the Party Babes are from a bit more expensive non-cotton fabric. But what little princess would not want a Babe dressed as she likes to dress.
Title: School Days
School will soon be starting and I will be adding handmade cloth dolls under the category of School Days that relate to school. For you who had to wear the dreaded uniform, I will have Babes that may remind you of uniforms but really are not. There will be cheer leaders and all kinds of fun stuff. So come on back and take a peak.
Title: Shipping Update
The new change in U.S.P.O has created quite a challenge in mailing large light packages. To mail a Babe (4 pounds) in a large box via priority would cost $21.50. $21.50 in postage is 1/3 the cost of a BabyKiss Doll and that is in addition to the $4.40 that I cover.
I am having to go back to the $10.00 flat shipping rate. I will continue to have the Babes in the mail by the third day but she will not be to the recipient until 5-6 days later. This is the most affordable and accommodating method for everyone. I want my Babes to find new loving homes but now it will just take a little longer to get there.
As the post office is raising their rates on Monday, May 14, 2007, so must I. Right now I am charging a flat $10 to ship a Babe within the U.S. It costs me $14.40 to ship the doll so I am eating some of the S&H expenses as well. It will still cost me an additional $4.40 so it is with regret that I must raise the cost of S&H to $12.50.
Title: Lay Away
Remember when stores allowed its customers to lay away an item? I am now offering that convenience.
I have come to realize that using a credit card is not always the best avenue for a customer who does not want to have a PayPal account.
Customers will be required to put down 25% of the total cost of the item excluding shipping. A 25% payment of the balance due will be required monthly to pay the item off. If after the end of 90 days the merchandise is not paid in full, the customer will be notified of the outstanding balance due. If a response is not received from the customer, the merchandise will be returned to inventory and no refund will be issued.
I hope the lay away program will allow more customers to give their loved ones a hand made cloth doll. As with the hand made cloth dolls and now the lay away program everything that is old is new again.
Title: Build A Babe
As I wrote back in January of this year, I would be creating a Build A Babe category for your to do just exactly that. That category is now open.
I have a good number of completed Babes in my small home and a far too copious number of completed outfits. Sometimes I hear customers say, if only the hair color were a different color, or the eyes or if the outfit had this or that. Well, now you have the opportunity to put the finishing touches on an outfit you select to create your customized Babe.
I will be adding many outfits in a very short time. So come on back and make a selection.
Title: Here Comes Peter Cotton Tail . . .
Peter Cotton Tail will soon be hoppin’ down that Bunny Trail delivering treats for all good little girls. Perhaps Peter could put a BabyKiss Doll in your loved ones Easter Basket.
I have dressed the Babes in Easter and Spring Finery that can be enjoyed all year long.
Which ever Babe you select for your little one, the smile on her face will be ever so big.
You’ll enjoy her squeals of delight and happiness. Remember a BabyKiss Doll is Today’s Toy and Tomorrow’s Treasure.
Title: Valentine's Day
Valentines Day is almost here. When the candy is eaten and the paper hearts are tossed aside, what does your young loved one have left to keep you in her heart for many months to come? Show your little one how she is remembered and loved all year long with a hand made cloth doll from my BabyKisses Doll line. These dolls are made safe and durable and take a tremendous amount of cuddling. As your young one looks at her Babe she will forever remember how much you loved her to bring such joy and delight into her life. Whether the Babe is setting on her bed or displayed on a nearby shelf, when she sees the doll; your love will immediately come to her heart. A Babe is Today’s Toy and Tomorrow’s Treasure. More Valentine Babes will be added by the end of next week. There is still time to place your order.
Title: Huggable Valentine Cuties
I have just added more handmade cloth doll Valentine Cuties that are dressed exceptionally well for your little princess. Check them out - they'll bring a smile to your face. Just think how surprised and happy your loved one will be. Love can't break these hearts.
Title: Meet the new Babes
The Pajama Party has begun! There are lots of sweet little hand made cloth Babes in their flannel finery just waiting to be cuddled. Send a Babe to bed with your loved one. She's sure to wake smiling with her new friend.
Also, I have added the Oriental Babes - take a peek.
Title: Build Your own Babe
Sometime during the year, I will add a category called, Build Your Own Babe." This category will have pictures of outfits already made to allow you to participate in building a Babe of your choice.
My customers are pleased with the outfits and Babes I put together but some of them would like to do some tweeking, i.e. different eye color or different colored hair. By offering the outfits only and recommendations, you can order a Babe with the hair color, eye color, skin color and any other tweeking you prefer for an outfit you have already seen. It's a step beyond ordering a Babe sight unseen. This way you see the outfit and put it on a Babe of your choosing.
Title: What's Up??
If you missed the Babes at Christmas - no worries. I have lots of new and exciting Babes in the making. Here’s my schedule – so get ready to pick your favorite.
January 2007 – We’re going to have a pajama party. Lots of cuddly Babes in their sweet little jimmies having a great time.
February 2007 - Babes in their Valentine attire for your most precious little Valentine.
March 2007 - Babes in their spring finery.
April 2006 – How about those Easter Bunnies? My Babes area ready to brighten the Easter Basket of your little loved ones.
May 2007 - I have a new category called Prom Night. These Babes will be dressed in their evening dresses complete with jewelry and corsages. There may even be a Boy Babe or two to escort the Prom Queens. If I have a Boy Babe to escort a Babe, they will be sold as a pair. Since I am using more expensive fabric and extras, these Prom Queens will be priced a bit more than the standard Babe. I am very excited about these girls. I know they will definitely become a treasure for your loved one.
I don’t want the little ones to be left out so I will have some 22” girls dressed as a “big girl.”
June 2007 – As June is the month of love, my proto-type bride, Amanda Gayle, and her proto-type groom, Jeffery, will grace the front page of my website. There will only be one bride and groom because I created as I went with no pattern for either. So if weddings are your forte’ get ready as they will be sold as a pair only.
July 2007 – God Bless America. I will have the Babes and some Boys ready to join in your 4th of July celebration.
September 2007 - Its back to school with Babes dressed accordingly. Some of you may have worn uniforms to school but I guaranteed you your uniforms never looked this cute.
December 2007 – more Christmas Babes to put under the tree.
I am very excited about the upcoming Babes. Got questions?? Let me know: firstname.lastname@example.org.
